Description

Wright City R-II has an opening for an elementary counselor for the 2025-2026 school year.  

 

Position Title:     Counselor

Reports To:         Building Principal

 

Summary:  The role of the counselor is to provide a comprehensive guidance program for students, handle the individual needs of students, complete clerical duties involved with the guidance program, coordinate and conduct all assessments at their school level.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implement the school guidance curriculum
  2. Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans
  3. Counsel small groups and individual students with problems
  4. Counsel with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the development needs of students.
  5. Refer students with severe problems to appropriate area resources in consultation with their parents and follow-up on treatment progress.
  6. Participate in, coordinate or conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school.
  7. Evaluate and revise the building guidance program.
  8. Pursue professional growth.
  9. Coordinate and administer testing at their school.
  10. Complete all clerical duties involved with the guidance program.
  11. Perform all duties assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Education with emphasis and experience in counseling required. Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling preferred.
  2. Must have excellent organizational skills; be knowledgeable of grant and scholarship programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. Valid Missouri Counselor’s Professional Certificate

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and before groups. 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.  Regular attendance on the job is expected. 

 

Terms of Employment:

Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies, agreements, and approvals.
