Job Description

 Position Title:       High School JV Assistant Coach

Reports To:          High School Athletic Director

 

Summary:  Responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes, organizing and running practices, coaching all scheduled contests, maintaining equipment, and overseeing the program.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  1. Promote the program and recruit interested students through fliers, announcements, and conversations.
  2. Follow all building procedures and district policies.
  3. Instruct and demonstrate skills necessary for individual and team improvement and achievement.
  4. Create and implement a plan for each practice that demands maximum participation of all student-athletes on teams.  Coach all players.  
  5. Communicate with parents all necessary information regarding schedules, cancellations, rescheduled games, or postponements.  
  6. Adhere to all financial policies of the Wright City School District, in regard to the collection and expenditure of money, use of receipts, and tracking expenses.
  7. Coordinate with the head coach, the athletic director and transportation director to arrange appropriate transportation to all away contests.  Travel with and supervise players on trips, or arrange for an assistant coach to do so.  
  8. Assist in the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  9. Assist in maintaining and updating an accurate inventory of all equipment, supplies, and uniforms.  
  10. Assist in ensuring that all necessary MSHSAA eligibility paperwork has been completed for each athlete, and keep a copy of completed physical forms on hand during all contests.
  11. Complete all necessary MSHSAA coaching requirements prior to the beginning of the season.
  12. Assist in the policing of a set of enforceable procedures and policies governing the scholastic and behavioral progress of student-athletes in the program.  Set high expectations for both behavior and academic success.
  13. Maintain a safe environment for student-athletes at all times, ensuring that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.
  14. Complete a Student Injury Report form for any student-athlete sustaining any type of injury during any practice or contest.
  15. Interact professionally with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials at all times, and resolve any and all conflicts in a professional manner.
  16. Maintain a professional relationship with the media at all times and make statements to the media that demonstrate a positive message about the Wright City School District and all employees and students of the district.
  17. Ensure that all facilities utilized are cared for and that all district buildings utilized are secured and lights turned off before leaving.  
  18. Supervise all student-athletes until they have left or have been picked up by parents at the conclusion of practices or contests.
  19. Complete all delegated tasks assigned by the head coach at a high level.
  20. Communicate consistently with the head coach any issues, concerns, or impediments in completing the job.
  21. Help the head coach annually evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the program.
  22. Attend all Eastern Missouri Conference and MSHSAA-sponsored events.
  23. Maintain appropriate certifications and secure all confidential information.
  24. Attend all scheduled practices, unless given a separate task from the head coach.
  25. Make being a Wright City student-athlete a fun, learning experience for all participants.

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

 

  1. A valid Missouri teaching certificate
  2. Experience working with student of all athletic levels/abilities
  3. Knowledge of sport specific techniques

Interpersonal Skills

Must possess strong, positive interpersonal skills including communication, ability to work with a wide demographic, including parents/guardians, students, assistant coaches, community members, and district personnel.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate effectively.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to problem-solve and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in varied situations.

 

Physical Demands

 While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach.  The ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises.  The employee is asked to run or jog, to demonstrate athletic moves and to maintain a high level of energy.  Regular attendance on the job is expected and necessary. 

 

 Terms of Employment:

 Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the    Board of Education’s policies, agreements and approvals.  This is a seasonal position.
