Position Title: Principal

Reports To: Superintendent

Summary: The High School Principal is responsible for providing effective instructional leadership and is accountable for the school’s operation. Major responsibilities include the educational program, professional and classified staff, student development, providing a safe, positive learning environment for students and staff, facility maintenance and management, fiscal management activities, and developing effective community relations.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provides strong and positive educational leadership in organizing, developing and administering the High School instructional program.
  2. Monitors the implementation and observance of Board of Education policies and regulations by the school’s staff, students, volunteers and visitors.
  3. Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of curriculum and course offerings.
  4. Utilizes data to identify areas of strength and weakness. Communicates this information to staff for curriculum goal setting.
  5. Provides leadership in developing the necessary climate for change and growth within the school.
  6. Supervises staff, students and programs in accordance with Building and District goals, policies and procedures.
  7. Assists in selection, assignment, orientation, training and evaluation of all personnel for whom she/he has supervisory responsibility.
  1. Provides for effective and efficient day-to-day operation of school facilities that are conducive to a safe, positive learning environment.
  2. Demonstrates effective organizational skills and completes duties promptly and accurately.
  3. Establishes and maintains effective discipline in the school with respect to individual rights and in keeping with positive behavior supports.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of finance and budget within the specific area(s) of authority and discharges the responsibility for making expenditures in accordance with Board of Education policies and regulations.
  5. Develops and demonstrates effective communications with administration, staff, students, parents and community members.
  6. Oversees custodial, cafeteria operations and other support services to maintain an efficient, clean, safe, attractive and functional facility.
  7. Ensures that transitional programs are in place for incoming students.
  8. Develops and oversees a comprehensive co-curricular and extra-curricular program that supports the development of students.
  9. Delegates and assigns responsibilities to subordinates.
  10. Prepares and organizes school schedules.
  11. Prepares and supervises the preparation and maintenance of reports and records.
  12.  Submits recommendations concerning the school’s administrative and instructional programs.
  13. Participates in public relations programs and serves as a positive liaison to the community.
  14. Works with the Director of Special Education and other administrators to ensure compliance with all student educational plans and accommodations.
  15. Attends and Supervises sporting events.
  16. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Masters’ degree in education. Previous teaching experience and at least 5 years experience in education required.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Principal Certification required.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret educational documents. Ability to research and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of patrons and/or employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and draw and interpret graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions. Capable of working with both abstract and concrete variables.

 

Physical Demand: While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, feel, reach or perform other physical tasks. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see. The employee is required to stoop or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Regular attendance on the job is expected.

 

Terms of Employment:

Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies and approvals. This is a 12-month exempt position.
